Snow Flake

The snow drifted lazily over a surreal landscape. The pine trees perfectly aligned in the horizon on the edge of a cool and mysterious forest. Frost patterns formed on the edges of a cabin window, which overlooked the rolling hills of white, complimented by the ebony sky.

Inside the cabin, a thick wooden log lay ablaze in a brick fireplace. The flames flicking to and fro, as the fire hungrily consumed it. The warm glow of orange light lit up the small room of the cabin; radiating friendliness, like a welcoming embrace, towards the bitter lonely cold outside. 

A Christmas tree stood, tall and lush with ornaments, in the middle of the scarcely decorated room. Beside it, a chair had been pulled up in front of the cackling furnace with a thick leather-sewn book neatly placed on its cushion.

Christmas carols, accompanied with the chiming and tolls of small bells, could be heard in a small village nearby. All was jolly and warm, the perfect Christmas setting.

Unbeknownst to them all, a lone figure stood on the outskirts of a forest of looming fig trees, hands outstretched towards the twinkling sky. An aurora borealis could faintly be seen in the far horizon, dancing and twirling in hues of pink, green, purple and many shades in between. The snowflakes swirled around the lonely man, landing gently on the tip of his nose, kissing his forehead, and touching his bare fingertips. The man smiled, as the light embrace of frozen drops comforted him.

‘Frohe Wiehnachten Brüder’, he whispered into the night. He pulled on his cerulean colored scarf, adjusting it so it covered his nose and mouth.  The man stood still for a while reminiscing about his earlier times, while looking at the brightly lit cottage, starkly portrayed against the surrounding night.

A teardrop escaped from the corner of his eye, before quickly being chilled and frozen in the frosty air. Yet another flake of snow was added to the cold winter night.
